Star Earring
The Star Earrings project grew out of the success of the LED Arrow project, which showcased how foundational electronics skills can lead to creative and practical applications. Designed as an advanced yet accessible project, the Star Earrings are PCB-based ornaments in the shape of a star embedded with 20 LEDs.
These earrings offer several dazzling light patterns, allowing wearers to choose from pre-programmed options or design their own patterns using simple coding techniques. Powered by a compact battery, the LEDs can run for over eight hours, making them perfect for parties and celebrations. The earrings include two control modes: they can be operated with an infrared remote controller or adjusted using a small potentiometer soldered onto the earring. Additionally, capacitive touch pads on the earrings enable users to turn the lights on and off with a simple touch.
This project was shown to the children as an example of what could be achieved by expanding on the concepts introduced in the LED Arrow workshop. It illustrated how altering shapes, adding more LEDs, and incorporating smarter features could lead to unique and innovative designs, inspiring them to think creatively about future projects.
